How to Support Your Student

Dear Families,
Please consider the following suggestions for how to support your child to have a successful school experience.

    Make attendance and punctuality a priority
    Be sure your child is free of communicable disease before going to school
    Encourage a growth mindset by championing learning above talent, hard work, and perseverance
    Read daily with your child
    Limit and monitor screen time and use
    Ensure your child gets adequate rest (9-12 hours per day)
    Become acquainted with your child's teachers and promptly communicate any concerns
    Model and teach respect for the law, the authority of the school, and the rights and property of others
    Know and understand school rules. Be aware of the consequences for violations and encourage your child to accept responsibility for their actions and to find ways to better the situation
    Familiarize yourself with current statewide academic standards
    Provide a positive homework environment

     

     

    Here are some other ideas on how to foster your child’s emotional, social, and academic development:

       

      Set routines in your home
      Consider your child's developmental abilities when parenting
      Build emotional resilience in your child
      Foster a healthy sense of self-esteem in your child
      Provide adequate time for your child to exercise
      Encourage healthy eating habits
      Guide your child to develop socially acceptable standards of behavior, to exercise self-control, and to be accountable for his/her actions
      Know about the entertainment choices your child is making and talk with them about what they see or read

      Athletic Support:

      Black Butte School District generously provides funding for middle school students (grades 5th-8th) to participate in sports programs sponsored by Sisters Middle School and/or Sisters Parks and Recreation District. All eligable BBS students are encouraged to apply for this “Pay to Play” program. Click here to learn more about the program’s requirements and application form.

      Housing Insecurity:

      These resources are designed to help identify homeless students within the our school community and to ensure educational access and success for students experiencing homelessness.
