The swim program is wrapping up and the final day is on Friday. We will get back to a normal schedule next week. Thanks again for your support of this program and flexibility with the altered schedule.

      Update from Ms. Steele

      Administrators (5th-8th)

In Literacy the Administrators continue to work on reading like a detective: meaning that successful readers believe there is more going on than what you see on the surface of a text.  When reading a novel, nonfiction, news or adverts we should always be looking below the surface as well.  We are looking for evidence in Scat where the characters are looking below the surface.  Next, we are going to look at ads and read them like a detective.

In math, everyone continues to work on math in their grade level.  I give approximately 4 or 5 assignments and they are due after 5 or 6 class days.  If students use their class time wisely, they should be able to keep up.

A permission letter went home today for the San Francisco field trip.  Please get it signed and returned as soon as possible.

      Update from Ms. Kassie

      K-1 Literacy & Math

Spring is coming, Spring is coming, Spring is Here!

Have your students been singing the Spring is coming song? Ask them to share it. Also we have been lighting a REAL candle during our morning circle and song time. Each student gets a chance to light the candle with a match (started by me) on their student of the day turn. This is a good time to reinforce fire safety at home, especially with campfire season approaching.

In literacy we have been working on 2 syllable words with the cve spelling pattern like cupcake, bedside, amaze, and volume. We have been working on reading our little paper books and answering questions about what we read. Some of this work is coming home in the purple folders so keep an eye out for those.

In math we are adding onto 2 digit numbers (without regrouping). 41+32, 75+14…

K-1 Literacy and Math Work and Play to try at home

        • Literacy– Read, read, read. All our students are readers. Find little things they can read in our world around them. Make them feel proud of all they have learned!
        • Math– Ask students to show you a way they know how to do that addition. Can they solve it using a different strategy too?
      K-2 Science

We have been learning about the night sky. Today we learned about why we can only see the stars during the day. Students brought home star makers. They will need 2 flashlights to show you the experiment we did today.

      Update from Mr. B

      BeBop Literacy & Math (2nd-4th)

In math, the Beboppers are practicing converting inches to feet, feet to yards and even yards to inches! They have revisited the first 25 prime numbers and are finding it helpful to be automatic when counting by 7’s, 8’s and 12’s. Find time to practice those math facts! The Bebop crew is also building up their telling time abilities (up to the nearest minute!).

In literacy, the focus has been on R-Controlled Vowel Phonemes and trickster tales! Students will have plenty of completed work to share over this weekend!

      Art Literacy

The K-2 crew is wrapping up their Sci-Art mini-unit with Mr. B. They have handmade, mini-moon books to bring home!

      Update from Mr. Sharp

      Field Studies (3rd-8th)

In Field Study class we spent more time programming and building code for our robots yesterday. We have one more lesson with the robots tomorrow and then we will wrap up this unit next week. The weather has been enjoyable and the students are loving the sunshine at recess. Hopefully we get a lot more sunny days in the last couple months of school.

      Health Class

We had two more swim lessons this past week and will have our final swim day this Friday. The program has been a great success and the improvement from our younger swimmers is particularly noticeable. Thanks to families for helping support this program.
