Hello Families,
It’s been a big week for BBS! We received our Certificate of Occupancy and the Administrators got to move into their new classroom on Monday. Photo above shows students carrying their belongings from the trailer to the new building. See this blog post for a fun video from move-in day.
As you all have noticed the temperatures are EXTRA cold this week! Thanks for helping your kids get prepared with warm jackets and shoes. They may have to stay inside if they don’t have appropriate gear to keep them warm.
If your students will be handing out valentines, send them on Thursday morning and students will exchange at the end of the day.

Update from Ms. Steele
Administrators (5th-8th)
Hello Parents and Friends,
As always, it seems like the Administrators are super busy. After moving into the new classroom and hosting a community event at the Community Hall, we are ready to settle in and focus on the academics!
In math class, we are either being introduced to integers, or we are continuing to complete more complex problems about all things linear. Ask your student about the definition of an integer.
We have finished the fairy tale unit. The students wrote really great fairy tale adaptations. They were so fun to read. We are moving on to a unit about culture, both ancient culture and what your culture would look like, if you got to start a new one.
Thanks to everyone who has helped with the projects we have been working on.
Update from Ms. Kassie
K-1 Literacy & Math
Ms. Jennie has been subbing for Ms. Kassie this week.
In math kinders are working on composing shapes. First graders are working on collecting data. Today we asked the question, what is your favorite color: orange, brown, blue, or purple. We found that two kids like purple, none liked brown, five liked blue, and one liked orange best. Then we made a tally chart of our data.
In literacy kinders are working on counting syllables in words and sounding out letters. First graders are working on reading independently, as well as composing sentences.
In science we are learning about light.

Update from Mr. B
BeBop Literacy & Math (2nd-4th)
Beboppers have been busy countin’ bills (regrouping with ones, tens and benjamins!), working with fractional parts and percentages. They are bolstering their spelling prowess around vowel teams (-igh, -ai, -ay, -ie, -ey, -ea, -ee, -ow, -oa), reading author and illustrator Eric Velasquez’s Grandma’s Records, working on cursive capitals D, G, E, L, J, Q along with capitalization rules and considering why President Day Sales involve buying mattresses.
Art Literacy (3rd-8th)
In art literacy, students are working with free-form shapes. Both classes have completed/are completing a line and shape translation composition.
Update from Mr. Sharp
Field Studies (3rd-8th)
It was a big week at BBS. We got our Certificate of Occupancy for Phase 2 of our construction project and began the process of moving in on Monday. The older students got settled into their brand new classroom and we unloaded the trailers. Both trailers as well as the storage container behind the school should be moved out in the next week or so. The set up of the new space will probably take the rest of the school year but we are finally in our new school. So far, everyone seems really excited and positive about the changes. It is still a little surreal for me to be in this beautiful new building after so many years of being in the old space.
In Field Study the students are coding away. We are learning all sorts of things about how to program electronic devices. I have been impressed with the students’ focus and ability to problem solve.
Health Class
We have not gotten through very many health topics this winter. The older students have been mostly working on Field Study class in the afternoon. We have also taken time recently to make our yearbook, write thank you cards, plan our SF trip, and discuss the creation of a school mascot. We will try to bring some more focus to health topics in the next month. The younger students had a lively discussion with me last week about how to avoid common injuries and accidents. We discussed safety strategies like wearing a seat belt, wearing bike helmets and life jackets, and being careful around cars and water.
