- Bebop (2nd/3rd) Math: Bebop math students are working on geometry. They are filling in an A to Z vocabulary book on all things geometric. We have been doing many hands-on explorations with folding, cutting and classifying shapes. Geometry is always a loved topic of the students as it is so concrete and easy to see around the building.
- Hodag (4th-8th) Math: Hodag mathematicians are also working on geometry vocabulary and learning to classify shapes in a more and more restrictive way. This week we will be doing an exploration with building 3 dimensional shapes with newspaper dowels.
- Health/PE Class: We are still continuing to enjoy some jogging conditioning. Both groups got out on the river yesterday and stretched their legs. Tomorrow we will take it easy so no one is sore for the jogathon.

- K/1 Math class: Kindergarten students have been adding 3 different numbers to create teen numbers along with continuing their tangram work to understand how to build and break apart shapes. First grade is continuing to work on double digit addition.
- K-3 Science/Social Studies: In our Weather and Climate unit students have learned about different clouds to help understand weather patterns. This week we are learning about different climate and global weather patterns.

- Mr. B’s K/1 Literacy: K/1 Literacy is exploring books by Brendan Wenzel. They discovered his book Inside Cat is really a poem! Hooray for poetry (even in May)!
- Bebop Literacy: Bebop Literacy has been burning the candle at both ends on their poetry journals. This week they’ve been practicing an extended cinquain. They will begin their last unit focused story (Carousel) later this week.
- Art Literacy: K/1 + Bebop are wrapping up their color poems (glueing tomorrow!) and Hodags are working through their checklist of visual poems. Tomorrow, students will be instructed to write a poem in two voices.
From Mr. Sharp: dsharp@blackbutte.k12.or.us
- Humanities class: We have spent the past week doing state testing which has taken over Humanities class. We are getting back to work tomorrow with some lessons on immigration to Oregon.
- Field Studies: In Field Study class we have begun a new unit on Dams, Salmon, and People. This will be our final unit of the year and the goal is to apply much of our learning from the year to a current real world issue. Students are examining the pros and cons of dams and will eventually engage in a debate about removing them from some of our rivers. This unit will also tie into our end of year trip as we will visit Bonneville Dam and raft the White Salmon River which had it’s dam removed about a decade ago.
