      Administrators (5th-8th)

Hello Friends and Families of the Administrators.

Learning, as well as life, moves along rapidly in the trailer.  We have settled in so nicely with all twelve of us, everyone carving out their own space.
      • The 7th and 8th graders are doing incredibly well learning the foundations of the linear equation.  There are some important prerequisites, like recursive routines, the coordinate plane and rate of change that they are mastering.  The 5th and 6th graders started on equations, learning that the steps are important.
      • Everyone continues to memorize the 36 Oregon Counties.  We continue to take quizzes.  Some students are obviously studying and some students need to put some more effort into it.  Ask your student how they are doing.
      • On the artistic side of things, we are working on an oil pastel, multilayered optical illusion, of a falling person.  And everyone just finished a flyer to promote a Camp Sherman Community Event at the Community Hall hosted by the class.  That is coming up in February.

      Update from Ms. Kassie

      K-1 Literacy & Math

In literacy kinder students are working with letters G,L,N, and U plus our new heart words; I, am, here. First grade students are working on double trouble spelling with ff, ll, and ss. We started with “all” words and are working on these other doubles this week and next.

In math kinder students are working with 6-10 on writing and making these numbers. 1st grade is doing a wrap up and will start on bigger number problem to 20. We all are working on numberless problems too, where we choose the numbers we work with and see that there can be multiple answers and ways to solve problems. Math isn’t about the right answer. It is about understanding what is happening with our numbers!

Work and Play to Try at Home
        • Kinder literacy- Have students work on reading the new heart words around them and making words, real or nonsense with this week’s letters.
        • 1st literacy- Have 1st grade students look for double trouble letters and spell them.
        • 1st math- Have 1st grade work on adding and subtracting within 10-20.
        • Kinder math- Have kinder students play with making numbers 6-10 by adding or subtracting.
      K-2 Social Science

We are diving into the world of sound. Ask students how sounds are made. Ask them about pitch and volume. We have been doing different experiments to play with sound. See pictures of students using string to hear the vibrations and play with different lengths to change the  pitch.

      Update from Mr. B

      BeBop Literacy & Math (2nd-4th)
Math: Beboppers have begun working ‘around’ perimeter with pattern blocks (check out the apple Camilla created to meet the 15 inch perimeter requirement!) and are sorting out quadrilaterals (trapezoid, parallelogram, rectangle, rhombus, square) in math.
Literacy: They are extracting and interpreting the themes from the story Blue Moose and ramping up to complete some hefty writing based on these discussions. Mr. B is also providing the beboppers an opportunity to practice their cursive writing while simultaneously bolstering their grammar skills (eight parts of speech, sentence types, etc.).
      Art Literacy (3rd-8th)

In art literacy, all students are continuing to work on a variety of self-portraits. They completed a 15 second, 60 second and 5 minute self-portrait on Tuesday. Tomorrow they will complete a 15 minute version!

      Update from Mr. Sharp

      Field Studies (3rd-8th)

We are back in the school flow at BBS. We had a great week with excellent attendance so far.

      • In Field Study class we spent Friday working on the school yearbook and graphic design. Then this week we worked with our electronic kits and built a circuit with an LED light. We are learning about current, voltage, and ohms. The students have been very engaged with this unit and are excited to learn about coding and robotics.
      Health Class

In Health class we began Sources of Strength this week. This is a mental health curriculum focused on building up students strengths and personal resources to prepare them for life’s future challenges.
